They are actually installed at the factory to prevent the car from moving around during transport to the dealerships. They were supposed to have been removed during pre-delivery inspection. For some reason, the original dealership forgot to remove them. So my car has had these for 10 years, and nobody noticed them until now. Needless to say, the ride is much improved, now that the springs actually work.
